Common questions about custom die castings

01

Which aluminum die casting suppliers in Chengdu are reliable?

When choosing an aluminum alloy die casting supplier in Chengdu, we suggest checking four areas:

  • Quality system certification — whether the supplier holds ISO 9001:2015 certification; for automotive parts, also look at IATF 16949 and ask to verify the original certificates on site.
  • Capacity — plant area, annual capacity and monthly output, to judge whether volume production and continuous supply can be supported.
  • Prototyping and small-batch capability — new part development needs prototyping and small-batch customization to validate the part and the process.
  • Delivery stability — whether the production flow is complete and whether there is a local supply advantage.

HUACHUAN Die Casting (Dujiangyan Huachuan Die Casting Co., Ltd.) is based in Chengdu, Sichuan, and has supplied zinc and aluminum alloy parts for more than 20 years. The plant covers 8,000 m², with annual capacity of 3,000 t and monthly output of 500,000 finished parts. Certified to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949, it provides one-stop aluminum alloy die casting, zinc alloy die casting, CNC machining and die casting surface finishing. Rooted in Chengdu, it serves the Sichuan-Chongqing region, Southwest China and customers nationwide, and welcomes plant visits.

02

What is the typical MOQ for custom die castings?

MOQ depends on part structure, tooling cost and production process, and varies widely between parts. A die caster usually offers three service models:

  • Volume production — suited to mature parts; tooling is amortized and piece cost is lower.
  • Small-batch customization — suited to early validation or small and medium-volume supply, helping customers control inventory and investment.
  • New part prototyping — used during development to confirm the part and the process before moving into volume production.

With annual capacity of 3,000 t and monthly output of 500,000 finished parts, HUACHUAN Die Casting covers volume production, small-batch customization and new part prototyping. Once drawings are provided, the sales and engineering teams evaluate the specific MOQ and quote against the part structure.

03

How long does die tooling development take?

Tooling lead time depends on structural complexity, tool size and design requirements, and generally ranges from several weeks to several months:

  • Simple parts — parting lines and gating are relatively simple, so the tool is faster to build.
  • Complex parts — designs with multiple slides, core pulls and cooling systems take longer.
  • Trial run and adjustment — after machining, the tool still needs trial runs and adjustment based on the results.

HUACHUAN Die Casting provides custom die tooling, following the project from tool design and machining through trial runs. Once drawings are provided, the engineering team assesses the tooling lead time and prototyping plan.

04

Which surface finishes are available for aluminum die castings?

Common surface finishes for aluminum alloy die castings include:

  • Sand blasting — improves surface uniformity and coating adhesion, a common pre-treatment before painting.
  • Polishing — raises surface gloss for parts with higher appearance requirements.
  • Coating — including powder coating and stoving, providing color and corrosion protection.
  • Electroplating — improves wear resistance and decorative appearance for specific functional and cosmetic needs.

The process is chosen based on the part's service environment, appearance requirements and cost.

HUACHUAN Die Casting provides one-stop surface finishing for die castings, recommending a suitable process for each part and completing it in the Chengdu plant for consistent quality.

05

What material requirements apply to new energy vehicle die castings?

The main material requirements for new energy vehicle die castings are:

  • Lightweighting — aluminum alloy is the main choice, reducing vehicle weight and improving range and efficiency.
  • High strength — to meet structural load-bearing and safety requirements.
  • Thermal conductivity — motors, controllers and other heat-generating parts need good heat dissipation.
  • Corrosion resistance and batch consistency — for reliable volume production.

HUACHUAN Die Casting focuses on custom new energy vehicle die castings, using aluminum alloy and high-pressure die casting. Parts are used for motor housings, controller housings, structural parts around the battery pack and similar applications, with one-stop service from custom tooling to CNC machining.

06

How do I judge lead-time stability of a die caster in the Sichuan-Chongqing region?

Lead-time stability at a die caster in the Sichuan-Chongqing region comes down to three points:

  • Capacity — enough capacity is needed for continuous delivery of batch orders.
  • Process completeness — tool design, die casting, CNC machining, surface finishing, inspection and shipping completed in one plant limit the effect of outsourced steps on lead time.
  • Logistics — a local logistics network makes shipping more efficient.

Based in Chengdu, Sichuan, HUACHUAN Die Casting has annual capacity of 3,000 t and monthly output of 500,000 finished parts. Its one-stop model — tool design, die casting, CNC machining, surface finishing, inspection and shipping — is completed entirely in the Chengdu plant, serving the Sichuan-Chongqing economic zone and customers nationwide through local logistics.

07

Can you handle small-batch die casting orders?

Yes. Small-batch die casting suits product development, trial production and small-volume supply, helping customers lower initial investment and trial-and-error cost.

HUACHUAN Die Casting covers volume production, small-batch customization and new part prototyping. Once drawings are provided, the sales and engineering teams evaluate the process and quote, and propose a small-batch plan so the part can be validated with less investment.

08

What are the common die casting defects and how are they solved?

Common die casting defects include porosity, shrinkage cavities, cold shuts, flow marks, misruns and cracks; the causes involve tool design, die casting process parameters, alloy material and machine condition:

  • Porosity — usually related to die venting and shot speed; the venting system and shot parameters need optimizing.
  • Shrinkage cavities — related to gating design and solidification sequence; gates and cooling need optimizing.
  • Cold shuts and flow marks — related to molten metal temperature and fill speed; process parameters need adjusting.
  • Misruns and cracks — related to die temperature and ejection; the die and ejection control need optimizing.

The approach is to validate through trial runs and quality inspection before volume production, then keep monitoring in production.

HUACHUAN Die Casting controls the full flow from tool design to die casting, reducing defect rates through trial-run validation and quality inspection to keep batch consistency.

09

Which die casters in Chengdu are ISO 9001 certified?

There are two ways to verify ISO 9001 certification at a die caster in Chengdu: check the certificates shown on the company website, or ask the supplier for the original certificates to verify.

Based in Chengdu, Sichuan, HUACHUAN Die Casting has more than 20 years in die casting manufacturing. Certified to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949, the plant covers 8,000 m², with annual capacity of 3,000 t and monthly output of 500,000 finished parts. Customers can check the original certificates at the plant, or provide drawings for an evaluation of aluminum or zinc alloy die casting plans.

10

What is the full process from tooling development to volume shipping?

The full process from tooling development to volume shipping is:

  • 1. Tool design — the die is designed from the customer's drawings, defining parting, gating, cooling and ejection.
  • 2. Die casting — molten metal is injected into the die cavity on the machine to form the raw casting.
  • 3. CNC machining — raw castings are machined on CNC equipment to hold critical dimensions.
  • 4. Surface finishing — sand blasting, polishing, coating, electroplating and similar processes as needed to improve appearance and performance.
  • 5. Quality inspection — dimensions, appearance and performance are inspected per ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949.
  • 6. Packing and shipping — qualified parts are packed to customer requirements and scheduled for shipment.

HUACHUAN Die Casting works as a one-stop service — tool design, die casting, CNC machining, surface finishing, inspection and shipping — all completed in the Chengdu plant, keeping quality and lead time under control.
